Sedation dentistry is a safe and effective treatment for patients that suffer from anxiety or are afraid of visiting the dentist. Patients that have a difficult time going totally numb during treatment will find relief with sedation. Sedation helps to calm the nerves, making the dental appointment relaxing. Our staff will be able to delivery the quality care you deserve without stress or fear that can lead to a poor dental experience. We want you to have a safe and economical choice when it comes to your oral health treatments.
Oral sedatives are prescribed before a dental procedure. Based on your level of anxiety, the oral sedatives must be taken the night before the procedure, or 30 minutes prior to the procedure.
The majority of people use Nitrous Oxide or Laughing Gas as it is commonly referred to. Nitrous oxide will create a relaxed feeling for patients. During the procedure, the patient will breathe in the gas to remain calm during the entire procedure. Within 30 seconds to 4 minutes, patients will start to receive a feeling of relaxation. Local anesthetic will be applied once you feel relaxed and we can start to begin dental work. Patients are constantly monitored during the procedure to ensure they are safe and relaxed.
We recommend younger patients use sedation dentistry as it can help them to relax. Children often have high amounts of energy, or they are scared and anxious when visiting the dentist. Sedation is one of the best ways to provide them with a calm, relaxing dental experience so they do not fear the dentist.
